Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has decided to declare a public health emergency status in a bid to contain the spread of covid-19 in Indonesia.
"Therefore, the government declares a public health emergency status," President Jokowi said at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Tusday, March 31, 2020.
To handle the outbreak, The government will also implement large-scale social restrictions. Regulated under the Law Number 6 Year 2018 on Health Quarantine, the move will be carried out by Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto, the Head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Doni Monardo and regional leaders.
"The government has issued Government Regulation on Large-Scale Social Restrictions and Presidential Decree on Public Health Emergency," President Jokowi stated.
As of Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 12.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the government has recorded 1,528 confirmed covid-19 cases, 81 recoveries and 136 deaths.
"Everyone should follow the Government Regulation and the Presidential Decree," he stated.
