Jakarta: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that covid-19 vaccinations will be carried out in every province in the country.
"Vaccinations will be carried out in every province, regency and city in the country," said President Jokowi here on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, the President became the first person to receive covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia. He ensured the public that the covid-19 vaccine is safe and halal.
Early this week, the Sinovac covid-19 vaccine obtained the emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM). The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) also declared that the covid-19 vaccine is halal.
According to BPOM, an analysis of the efficacy of CoronaVac from phase three clinical trials shows that the Sinovac covid-19 vaccine has met the WHO’s requirement of a minimum 50 percent efficacy.
The results of clinical trial in Bandung demonstrate a 65.3 percent efficacy, while similar trial in Turkey demonstrates a 91.25 percent efficacy, and 78 percent for trial in Brazil.
For the record, the covid-19 vaccination will be carried out for around 182 million Indonesians to obtain herd immunity and will be carried out in stages with the first priority being health workers as the frontline in handling the pandemic.
Besides Sinovac, Indonesia will also procure covid-19 vaccines from other manufacturers and multilateral programs.
