medcom.id, Depok: President Joko Widodo has ordered Indonesian Military Chief General Moeldoko and Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu to renew the procurement system in the military. They are requested to conduct in-depth overhaul of the Military's weaponry management.
"I have ordered the Defense Minister and Military Chief to conduct in-depth overhaul on the Indonesian Military's weaponry management. The weaponry procurement system should be renewed, this is the moment," President Jokowi said after becoming the ceremonial inspector of Bhayangkara Day at the Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters field, Akses UI Road, Depok, Wednesday (7/1/2015).
Weaponry procurement must be directed to defense industry independence, so that the military is prepared with homemade weaponry.
"Our defense industry should be involved, starting from the design, production, operational, maintenance drill and destruction of worn out weaponry," he stated.
Aside from renewing the weaponry procurement system, Jokowi has also instructed in-depth investigation on the cause of Hercules C-130 crash, killing more than 100 people.
"I have also instructed an in-depth investigation on the cause of the accident to be conducted soon," he deliberated.
Jokowi also conveyed his deep condolences and wished that the same incident will not reoccur. "Let us pray so we may be protected from any disasters," he stated.
As informed, Indonesian Air Force Hercules carrying 122 passengers and crews crashed on Letjen Jamin Ginting Street, Padang Bulan, Medan. The plane, constructed in 1964, crashed at around 11.48AM or two minutes after taking off from the Soewondo Air Force Base, Medan.
The plane crashed onto several buildings and allegedly caused casualties aside from those on board the plane. The latest information says that at least 141 bodies have been evacuated to H. Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. (Eps)
