Arief was said to hold the title of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Berkley Jakarta Branch. The University was cooperating with Indonesian International Management Foundation (LMII).
But the Minister of Research, Technology and High Education M. Nasir stated that LMII was a phony campus. The license for the institution was only for an informal education, whereas the diplomas published by LMII was considered as fake.
Arief was not alone. Several other officials have also hold LMII diplomas, such as the parliament member Kamarudin Watubun, Lili Asdjudiredja, former Sumatera Utara Chief of Police Inspector General Hadiman and former Central Java Chief of Police Alexander Bambang Riatmodjo.
This is not the first for Arief in facing similar problems. Previously, he was mentioned to be aware of the alleged corruption on the procurement of Internet Service Center Vehicle for Subdistricts (MPLIK) at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in 2010. The project was worth around Rp1.4 trillion.
The former Director of PT Telkom had skipped the Supreme Court summons twice, first in December 2013 and the second time in January 2014. (Eps)
