Labuan Bajo: President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has expressed his commitment to accelerate infrastructure development in Labuan Bajo region.
"First, we will accelerate the development of Komodo Airport. We will expand its terminal. We will improve its runways. Hopefully it can be fully completed next year," President Jokowi said here on Wednesday.
"After that, we will start to prepare cultural evnts and festivals. We will promote these events. We need to improve the products. We then will bolster our marketing efforts," he explained.
President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo paid a working visit to Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday. He was accompanied by First Lady Iriana, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, State Secretary Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono as well as NTT Governor Victor Laiskodat.
After inspecting Komodo Airport, President Jokowi is scheduled to visit Marina Komodo project in Puncak Waringin. On the next day, he will visit a number of tourist destinations in the region.
Earlier this month President Jokowi said that the Government aims to develop tourism in North Sulawesi to boost economic growth in the region.
He explained that the Government will provide support in road development, coastal area development, and in expanding airport terminal to accommodate six million passengers, from the existing capacity of two million passengers.
He added that the Government has decided to start the terminal construction in Sam Ratulangi Airport in September this year and is expected to complete the project in August 2020.
