Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today said that Indonesian economy is starting to recover from the covid-19 pandemic. He explained that several recent indicators pointed to ongoing economic improvements.
One of the indicator is Indonesia's manufacturing purchasing manager index (PMI). The country's manufacturing PMI increased to 51.3 in December 2020.
"The manufacturing PMI has entered the expansion zone," said President Jokowi said virtually during the Media Group News (MGN) Summit Indonesia 2021 on Wednesday morning.
In addition to that, Indonesia's consumer confidence index (KKI) also has been improvince since the end of last year. In December 2020, Indonesia's IKK increased from 92 in November 2020 to 96.5 in December 2020.
Indonesia's export activity currently is also improving. It is mainly influenced by rising commodity prices such as nickel and copper.
"The Jakarta Composite Index has returned to 6,000 level and the rupiah currency rate is around Rp14 thousand per USD," the President stated.
"In order to protect the public and the business world, the National Economic Recovery (PEN program) will continue in a measured manner. The 2021 State Budget is designed to support acceleration of economic recovery," he concluded.
