Jakarta: Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo is committed to providing easy access to food within his first 100 days of serving as a member of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet.
"We must be able to feed 267 million people," he said in Jakarta on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
According to the NasDem party politician, the public should not have difficulties in obtaining staple food such as rice.
Yasin plans to check various factors that affect food production, including weather disturbances and potential disasters. He will use technology to collect reliable data.
"We can use satellites. We can also use artificial intelligence technology," he said.
In addition, he will overhaul the food control and supervision system so that the government can obtain accurate data. He will compare the ministry's data with data from other agencies as a guideline for importing food.
"With the right data, we can see the real conditions," he remarked.
"If we need imports, we will decide through a coordination meeting," he added.
Before being appointed as Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul served as Governor of South Sulawesi for two periods and Regent of Gowa for two periods.
