Job Creation Law Needed to Create Jobs, Support Small Businesses: Jokowi

Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has reiterated that the Job Creation Law is needed to reduce unemployment rate in Indonesia.
"Every year, there around 2.9 million youth who enter the workforce," the former Jakarta governor said during a virtual press conference here on Friday.
The Job Creation Law covers 11 clusters, namely simplification of licensing procedures, investment requirements, manpower, ease in obtaining permits for empowerment and protection of MSMEs, ease of doing business, research support and innovation, government administration, imposition of sanctions, land procurement, investment and government projects, and economic zones.

"The Job Creation Law will also help people and small and medium-sized enterpreneurs to open new businesses," he stated.
On Thursday, clashes broke out between police and protesters during anti-Job Creation Law rallies. According to reports, the incidents injured dozens of protesters and police officers and damaged many public facilities and buildings.
On Monday, supported by almost all parties at the parliament, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) passed the Omnibus Bill on Job Creation into law. However, the controversial law is strongly opposed by labor unions and activitsts, citing lack of protecion of labor rights.
"If you oppose the law, you can file an application for judicial review to the Constitutional Court (MK)," he explained.
