Jakarta: Claus Wamafma became the first Papuan to be the new director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), an international mining company and affiliate of Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium.
The decision has been effective since February 7, 2020.
Based on information gathered by Medcom.id, as per Tuesday February 18, 2020, Wamafma has been actively working for PTFI for over 20 years. Prior to his current position, he has previously worked as Senior Vice President (SVP) looking over Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), partnership fund, and community development.

Prior to working as SVP, Wamafma was appointed as Warehouse General Supervisor and Warehouse Manager from 2008-2011.
Wamafma is also noted for having an impressive education record. He graduated from SMA 2 Jayapura high school and obtained masters degree from Bandung Institute of Technology in 2009.
At present, the Board of Commissioners of PT Freeport Indonesia consist of Richard C Adkerson as President Commissioner, Orias Petrus Moedak as Vice President Commissioner, and Adrianto Machribie, A.M. Fachir Hinsa Siburian, and Kathleen Lynne Quirk as commissoners.
Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of PTFI consist of Clayton Allen Wenas as President Director, Jenpino Ngabdi as Vice President Director, and Achmad Ardianto, Claus Wamafma, Mark Jerome Johnson, and Robert Charles Schroeder as directors.
PTFI has a total of 7.096 employees in which 2.890 people or 40.7% are local Papuans, and 57.2% are non-Papuans, with the rest being expatriates. (Translator: Flory Ambarita)
