Jakarta: State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir explained that his deputy ministers were appointed as commissioners in state-owned firms to represent the government.
In November 2019, Deputy SOEs Minister I Budi Gunadi Sadikin was chosen as the Deputy President Commissioner of state-energy giant PT Pertamina. This Month, Deputy SOEs Minister II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo was picked as the President Commissioner of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI).
"They will be the representatives of the government," Erick said here on Friday, February 21, 2020.

"It is not a new policy," he added.
BRI is one of the largest commercial banks in Indonesia. The bank has been instructed to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
According to Erick, Kartika has a vast experience in banking and financial management. Before joining BRI, he served as the President Director of Bank Mandiri.
"The SOEs Ministry wants BRI to synergize with MSMEs through Mekaar or other programs," the minister stated.
