Jakarta: Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is optimistic that Indonesia will become the world's Islamic economic center in the future.
"I want to develop halal industrial estates, halal training centers and others," the influential cleric said during the opening ceremony of the 6th Indonesia Islamic Economic Forum (IIEF) at the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta on Friday, November 15, 2019.
Ma'ruf said the central government is committed to developing Islamic economy. He revealed his side plans to revise Presidential Regulation Number 91 of 2016 concerning the National Committee of Islamic Finance.
"It is aimed to expedite the development of Islamic economy and Islamic finance that will focus on devlopment of halal industry, Islamic finance, Islamic social fund and Islamic business activities," he remarked.
"We have to move fast. We are still behind others. However, it should be effective. Moreover, it should give a lot of benefits and big impacts," he added.
He is confident that the development of Islamic economy and Islamic finance will make Indonesian people proud. He hopes the sector will be more welcomed by the public.
"The development of Islamic economy and Islamic finance should be seen as rational economic activities by the public. So it will not become an exclusive sector. It should be embraced universally," he concluded.
