Jakarta: The development of downstream coal industry in Indonesia must become a priority and be implemented immediately, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said here on Friday.
The statement was conveyed by the the president while chairing a limited meeting through a video conference from the Bogor Presidential Palace, Bogor City, West Java Province, on Friday morning.
"We have to support the development of downstream coal industry, starting from coal briquettes, coal liquefaction, coal gasification to coal water mixture," the president stated.
According to President Jokowi, the development of downsteam coal industry will be able to improve the added value of coal produced by Indonesian firms.
At the same time, it will also reduce imports of raw materials needed by several industries such as steel, petrochemical and other industries.
"We also, of course, can create as many jobs as possible," added the President.
