Govt Committed to Increasing Exports of Indonesian Halal Products

Jakarta: Indonesian Trade Minister Agus Suparmanto has said that his ministry is committed to increasing the exports of Indonesian halal products to other countries.
 
"We have establishe trade agreement with several Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries, including Pakistan, Mozambique, Palestine, Malaysia and Brunei," said the minister in a written statement issued on Monday.
 
In addition, the Indonesian govrnment is currently considering trade cooperation with Turkey, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Iran, Morocco and several Eurasian countries.

"Although Indonesia's trade balance with OIC countries is positive. Indonesia wants to become the center of global halal industry. We focus on halal food, cosmetics and medicines," the minister explained.
 
Last week, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the Indonesian government seeks to develop Halal Industrial Zones (KIH) in several regions. The Vice President revealed there are two areas receiving permission from Ministry of Industry, namely Modern Cikande Industrial Estate in Cikande, West Java, and SAFE n LOCK Halal Industrial Park in Sidoarjo, East Java.
 
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the halal industrial areas will include food, beverage, fashion, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic clusters. The Government also recognized that the potential can be amplified by developing tourism areas and Islamic financial industry.
