Jakarta: President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo was asked to be mindful of the impact of the global economic slowdown next year. The message was delivered by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva some time ago.
"I also received a warning when I met with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. She said that President Jokowi, be careful in 2020," Jokowi said at the Bank Indonesia annual meeting at the Raffles Hotel, Jakarta on Thursday night, November 28, 2019.
Jokowi said the world economy in 2020 based on predictions the International Monetary Fund would continue to fall below three percent. This year alone, the IMF has cut its global economic forecast four times.
"The possibility of global economic growth will still decline again," he explained.
Jokowi was asked to formulate various policies so that the Indonesian economy would continue to grow healthy. Among other things, keep fiscal prudent and encourage indicators to drive the economy. For example, giving a larger portion to the private sector in working on strategic government projects.
"We have a framework, a framework that we will pursue. Many times, I have told the private sector to provide opportunities," he said.
In addition, the government will encourage exports and investment. Among these are encouraging to downstream the mining industry to create added value. Then improve the investment climate by amending 74 laws in the employment omnibus law. This will be effective next year.
"In December we propose an omnibus law to the House of Representatives (DPR). In January there will be a second omnibus law proposed to the DPR, so there will be an acceleration in the business world if you want to invest your capital," he concluded.
